Who lives in a pineapple?

And is coming to the big screen? I can't tell you how excited I am, and I see that Avril agrees.

Apparently they will remake anything

Plot Outline: A remake of the classic 80s sex comedy, where a group of high schoolers seek revenge on a nightclub owner and his sheriff brother.

[ Porky's (2005) ]

And they'll make us sit through every disgusting frame... twice.

Though, with Savage Steve writing, perhaps it'll be good. Mikah mentioned Better Off Dead, and now I'm craving a Savage Steve Holland movie night. Though, on second thought it will still be Porky's, and therefore pretty base. Of course, in that case, Nar will like it.

Move '04 is over!

8 days ago I didn't even know I was moving. I just wanted to get my name on the list for available 2 bedroom apartments in my building in preparation of my wife's arrival (date still undetermined). Much to my surprise there was a 2 bedroom on the 6th floor available immediately. This satisfied my “preferably higher up” rule as well as had the nicer (IMHO) northern view toward the city. The only question was would the building for some bizarre reason require 30 days notice to transfer between 2 of their apartments?

Monday came and the answer with it, no 30 days notice required. Now the question was is it possible to prepare for a move in 5 nights during Ramadan? Apparently the answer is just barely and it won't be fun. Everything is now safely in the new digs, but I don't believe I even want to think about unpacking.

Will I ever plan a move in such short time again? And during Ramadan? Not if I can help it. Lesson learned.

I'm feeling it

If only for the fact that the map is always there, and yet doesn't obscure any part of the game, I think I will like the DS a lot.

Super Mario 64 DS is much more than just a port of the Nintendo 64 version of the game. New worlds, new characters, new moves and the addition of action-packed minigames make this title bigger and better than ever before!

Why take functionality away?

I recently received an evite at an email address that evite was not informed about, so I went to add it to my profile as I had done multiple times in the past. Couldn't find the option, so I checked the FAQ:

How can I add/edit the email addresses attached to my Evite account?
Currently, you are not able to add, merge, or edit your email attached to your Evite account. We are in the process of improving this feature to ensure that it functions properly. Please check back as it will be returning soon!

What? Why? So aggrevating. Why do they tease me so? Oh evite, how far you have fallen...

They keep sucking you in with the freebies

I guess I should plan a trip to Game Crazy...

Retailers participating in the Metroid Prime 2 Echoes T-shirt pre-sell offer include Circuit City, Game Crazy, GameStop and Electronics Boutique. Metroid Prime 2 Echoes is Rated T for Teen (Animated Blood, Violence). The hip T-shirt features a Samus name tag on the front and a bounty hunter logo on the back.

[ Nintendo ]

I wonder if there is animated blood and violence on the T-Shirt...

People with too much time on their hands

Some people have a ton of time on their hands, and end up saving the rest of us time and frustration.

Doug Gibson, purveyor of fine music news, has brought to my attention a dead sexy “favlet” that all web developers and designers need to get ASAP. Ruler 1.2 is so wicked sweet that it must be experienced to be believed.

If your browser of choice is IE6, however, you'll need the specially reworked version.

DS to be region-free

Nintendo has officially confirmed that the Nintendo DS will be region-free, allowing it to play games purchased anywhere in the world. Although this news may not specifically cater to American and Japanese folks, it certainly gives us Europeans the benefit of importing our DS systems from abroad, with the help of import specialist sites such as Lik-Sang.com.

[ Gaming headlines ]

This reminds me of my trip to Akihabara recently. There were so many game stores with so many cool games. But, once I get past the fact that they're in Japanese, I have no guarantee that any could work on my systems back home. I know the GameCube doesn't allow swapping of the US/Japanese games, and I think the PS2 is the same.

And since the device is displaying the games, the whole PAL/NTSC debate is unnecessary. I'm guessing that with the world shrinking the way it is, this is a statement of how the economics of regional protection don't hold up anymore, and the ability to manufacture one system for the world pays off much better in the end. Sounds like a real good move to me.

Ramadan Mubarak!

The Islamic Shura Council of North America has declared that: Based on reported Crescent Sighting in Austin Texas by two (2) witnesses, the Shura Council of North America declares tomorrow, Friday October 15, 2004 CE to be the first day of Ramadan 1425 AH. Ramadan Mubarak

[ Hilal-Sighting.Com ]

There was a little bit of confusion at first about weather the sighting was really the hilal, but apparently they called back, doubled checked, and agreed that the moon had been sighted.

Though I wish the language was better selected. Technical what they are saying is that the first of Ramadan started on Thursday night at sunset, and Friday is the first day of fasting.

Bring It!

In the eternal struggle for US city with the best Thai food, I challenge the San Francisco Bay area to “bring it”:

Amina Thai Restaurant is the first Muslim Thai restaurant in the Washington Metropolitan area, run and managed by Sister Amina, a Muslim lady from Thailand.

[ Amina Thai Restaurant ]

Sure, they got a selection of halal Chinese restaurants, but halal Thai?

Update: Props to Dari and the Washington City Paper
