It is odd that they still have any web presence. It appears that someone shut down their SQL server, but forgot to change the website. This saddens me, as I really enjoyed their magazine. The remainder of my subscription will be filled with GameNOW's sister publication “Electronic Gaming Monthly”, which I'm not a real big fan of. I do subscribe to Nintendo Power, but since it's the companies own magazine, it can be a bit biased, and only reviews games for Nintendo hardware.
If anyone has a good argument for another gaming magazine, I'd sure appreciate the tip-off.
Update: This appears to have been temporary, while link-checking the site seemed to be back up. However they have notified me that the magazine is no more, which still begs the question, “Why is the website still up?”

Which I think is pretty darn cool.
No hard numbers from the X Box camp, but good news for Nintendo fan boys like me:
The videogame industry received a dose of good news on Wednesday when Nintendo Co. Ltd. said holiday sales of its GameCube rose over 70 percent from a year ago, while Sony Corp's PS2 sales did not fall as sharply as expected.

I've frequently thought, that for all intents and purposes, ildasm is nothing more than a curiosity.
I've just proved myself wrong. In addition to having my own personally blog, I run a community blog at http://geekprime.com/, which runs the .Text package. Although I've heavily modified the code for this site, I am running a “binary only” installation of .Text.
I've recently upgraded to the 0.95.X.X version of .Text, and couldn't remember how I previously altered the pages to publish geourl/geotag information. A bit of research and I determined the aspx file that needed the new code (DTP.aspx) but how to get the information from the code behind, into the places I wanted, without fetching the source code version and altering it.
Enter ildasm. It was quite happy to tell me all of the properties of each class, the base case of DTP.aspx.cs had blog configuration data, and it's class definition was in a 2nd dll. All right there. All easy to find. A few <%= %> tags later, and the info I wanted was nicely inserted into the header that I wanted, without fetching the source code version of .Text.
Thanks ildasm!
I had lunch with fellow blogger KaShei today. Even though I've done it a few times (from dating to board games and coffee with LJ friends), it is sort of weird to meet an online person in "real life".

That's cool. It reminds me of the old days, when BBS users would get together for paries to meet each other. Some were a surprise, some you wish you had never met, and some were just real cool.

Speaking of the new E St. Landmark Theater:
Landmark Theaters, the nation's largest chain of "art houses", is opening its second Washington D.C. area theater on Friday, January 9th. Once the infallible king of the video game industry, some have suggested that Nintendo go the way of Sega and concentrate on bringing its strong first-party titles to multiple consoles instead of continuing to settle for financial and technological inferiority to Microsoft and Sony.
[SURGE Magazine - Lobby ]
The only problem, with this statement, is that GameCube is technologically superior to the PlayStation2, and for some cross platform titles, just looks and works better than the X Box version. And financially they're not broke yet. Microsoft is only in the game in the US, and only due to their deep pockets. Society at large should be ashamed at allowing the weak Sony offering of PlayStation2 take the top seat. (And I'll grumble some more about having to use the horribly stupid multi-tap device).
I'm rather certain that the PSP isn't going to amount to much, and that Nintendo's next offering will get them back on top. Of course online play is where most people put Nintendo the weakest, but I've yet to have an online play experience that was enjoyable. I feel that MS's X Box Live is the way to go, but it is way too pricey. Sony's not having a central hub certainly does keep the price down, but I've seem many complaints about trying to hook-up online.
Nintendo has the #1 system right now (GameBoy Advance/GBA SP) and the #3 (GameCube, at least worldwide) and there doesn't look to be much stopping them. I will have to agree that Miyamoto's fascination with GBA to GameCube hook-up is getting very stale, but a few items on the horizon might convince me otherwise (notably Zelda 4 Swords and Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles).
However, all that being said, I will continue to give Surge the benefit of the doubt, and give their premiere issue a good reading, they can certain retract their statements in the future, when Nintendo rules them all.
Note: All supporting figures left out due to lack of time. I will assume that I am correct with all wild statements made.
Tomorrow, the E Street Cinema opens -- the first mainstream movie house to operate downtown in decades. E Street Cinema will show foreign, independent and documentary films in eight small- to medium-sized theaters, adding another entertainment option to the growing list of restaurants, nightclubs and playhouses opened recently or proposed for Washington's once-moribund downtown.

All good news. We've lacked a bit of culture (read stuffy foreign cinema) in DC since the Biograph and the Key closed down. I expect to see Japanese films, Animation festivals, and other goodies.

A bit of advice about picking a good coffee:
It may appear that the differences between "commercial" coffees and "specialty" coffees have become less as the larger brands have introduced new flavors and offerings over the past few years.
But don't be fooled — when it comes to quality and taste, the differences have become more pronounced as blended coffees increasingly use the less expensive Robusta beans, which are lower in quality.
[ MSNBC ]
And more good news about your daily cup o' joe:
Reports show that consuming 24 oz or less of coffee per day can deliver a number of health benefits including the reduction of colon and bladder cancers because of the phenols contained by coffee. For asthma and allergy attack suffers, a cup of coffee can reduce the attack. After a 10-year study by the University of Bristol, researchers discovered that a cup of coffee could help in the performance of tasks requiring sustained attention. It further helped enhance a person’s ability to perform these tasks at times when they were less alert such as after lunch, at night or when sick with a cold.
[ Still MSNBC ]
Though I'd highly recommend getting your coffee as whole beans and purchasing a burr grinder to grind your own just before brewing. It makes a world of difference.

More like a PSP killer if you ask me. Rather sexy. If this thing does any kind of wireless and web browsing or emailing stuff then I expect it will completely trounce the PSP. Of course the PSP will play games, but I've got a GameBoy for that...
People who tank up on coffee may reduce their risk of developing type 2 diabetes, new research suggests.
[ Yahoo! News ]
Of course they do want to make it clear that
the researchers warn their study "cannot prove a cause-effect relationship" between caffeine consumption and a lower risk of diabetes. And, they add, "it is premature to recommend increased coffee drinking as a means to prevent type 2 diabetes."
And they also seem to have a bit of distain for coffee drinkers, making wild accusations like:
People who drink lots of coffee often have other unhealthy habits, including smoking, drinking alcohol and leading a sedentary lifestyle.
So I exepct to increase my coffee habit, in order to stave off type 2 diabetes, and continue my sedentary lifestyle, since I don't drink or smoke, and have no plans of starting either.
