StraightOuttaLynnwood.jpgThe new Weird Al album is out, and I think it may be his best ever. I love his love song to his pancreas:

My spleen just doesn't matter
Don't really care about my bladder
But I don't leave home without
My pancreas

My pancreas is always there for me (ahh oooh ooh)
Secreting those enzymes (bop bop ba-ooh)
Secreting those hormones too
Metabolizing carbohydrates just for me

Not to mention a great new holiday song for Weasle Stomping Day, a warning to [Not] Download This Song, and Al mocks those that'd Sue You so easily.

Andrew brought this to my attention because of his seething hate of all things Canadian, and Al's Canadian Idiot anthem. Though the parodies don't stop with Green Day, Al does send ups of Chamillionaire, Usher, Taylor Hicks, and R. Kelly. All genius.

The sample I heard of Pancreas was brilliant. The song seems to be an homage to Brian Wilson's SMiLE and the silly subject matter adds volumes to that (see Wilson's "Vega-tables" or "Mrs. O'Leary's Cow").

The one song I've heard all the way through was funny but really missed the mark. "Don't Download This Song" is in the style of "We Are The World," so as you can imagine, the idea is that a bunch of artists come together to sing about how mp3 swapping is destroying the Earth. On paper, this is a genius idea, but I was disappointed by the execution. The lyrics are fairly boring and Al doesn't explore the "united artists" gimmick at all, it's just Al's nasal voice singing everything.

Also, isn't "Weasel Stomping Day" a direct ripoff of "Snake Whacking Day" from The Simpsons?

Al is still funny, but if one compares the genre songs on this album to anything from Team America or South Park, I think he's a distant second...

Ok, just listened to it and "Pancreas" is DEFINITELY a parody of SMiLE. By far the best track on the album. Good stuff... And anything making fun of American Idol is bound to be good, so I'm backing off my Weird Al is washed up vibe. The songs I mentioned in the last post are definitely disappointing, but there's some good stuff on here.
