The Former Cat Stevens Gets Plane Diverted

Wha?

A London-to-Washington flight was diverted to Maine on Tuesday when it was discovered passenger Yusuf Islam - formerly known as singer Cat Stevens - was on a government watch list and barred from entering the country, two federal officials said.

Apparently we don't mind looking like the stupidest country in the world. And, apparently, we have no one doing any PR work, who would certainly point out that this confirms that the US isn't fighting terrorism, but fighting Islam. I'd like to see W step in and reverse this immediately, or I might have to do the unthinkable.

Why?

The guy has gone on the record as supporting the fatwah against Rushdie and has been accused of donating to Hamas.

Diverting his flight and denying him entry might be overkill, but it's not indicative of "the stupidest country in the world".

Of course he outright denies the support of the fatwah and isn't aware of any of his money going to any terrorist organizations (and with Hamas that is easy to believe, they raise funds under many, many names, so many it's hard to keep track.)

I still think it makes the US look stupid to a large percentage of the international community.

Plus, I thought you supported Kerry...

Yeah, I'm a Republican who thinks Bush is worse than Kerry.

Hey, if Ted Kennedy can get denied getting onto a flight, then by God Cat Stevens can too, regardless of the Name. Luckily this can simply be dismissed as fighting Islam, and nobody will actually get in trouble for fighting "Crappy singers from the past who the news reports as famous only because they got arrested or denied entry into the country." If only Courtney Love was trying to get into the country, I have a feeling they would have shot down her plane and they later said she had changed her name to Souhelia Al-Jadda (I went to high school with this girl's entire family http://www.cnn.com/TRAVEL/NEWS/9802/13/passenger.profiling/) and she was somehow wanted, when in fact it was just because she is a "Crappy singers from the past who the news reports as famous only because they got arrested or denied entry into the country or shot down."

Yeah that's true.

Except of course the "crappy" part, or the "famous only" part.

He's about the most famous Muslim in the UK, with the possible exception of Dodi's Pop.

He's also well respected by the UK government types.

However, I fully support rejecting Courtney Love or Ted Kennedy if they attempt to return to the US at some point.
