Metroid Goodness

Sure it's marketing hype, but so far I am inclined to agree:

Metroid Prime 2 Echoes is one of those rare games that exceeds its predecessor in quality. The game expertly weaves themes of light and darkness in every element, from plot, to characters, weapons, power-ups, even the music. The action is engaging and intense (you'll love to hate the Ing Horde), the levels brilliantly designed, and the puzzles intelligent but approachable. Metroid Prime 2 Echoes is a fantastic installment in one of the Nintendo GameCube's most exciting franchises.

I haven't gotten so far, but already it feels better than the original. The engine is a bit more polished, the world seems more complex and thought out, and everything is a bit darker and more sinister. Once again, if you don't have a game cube, you are missing out big time.

The reason I don't ahve a Game Cube, and wouldn't buy one over an X-box or PS-2, is that the games strike me as too kid-targeted and cartoonish.

Maybe that's a misperception on my part, but I want to play sports, FPS and RPGs on a console, not be some cute guy jumping onto gold coins and throwing stars at things.

Yes, I have heard of Zelda and Metroid Prime -- and would probably buy those two first, if I got a Game Cube, but I'm not gonna get a console for just two carts.

Perhaps I should preface that with "If you play games on consoles..."

I wouldn't recommend anyone buy one or the other, but instead pick up a GameCube PLUS a PS2 or XBox. And for $99 and a free copy of the first Metroid game, plus $50 for the second, I think it's worth it if you never buy another game after that.

Personally platformers are what I play most, and that's why I got the GameCube first...
