The goal is to convince Americans that the popularly known "Grand Old Party" of Abraham Lincoln is a shell of its former self and in the grip of its most narrow, right wing, in hopes of making independents and moderates think twice about switching allegiance.

The goal is to convince Americans the obvious? Abraham Lincoln's party is all but formally the Libertarian Party, no?

I'm not sure which direction you're going with this? Are you saying that Republicans are basically Libertarians, or are you saying those that would have supported Lincoln's version are actually Libertarians? If the former, then, no, absolutely not. If the latter, perhaps. Today's Republican party is just as far from Libertarian as the Democratic party is.

I'm saying that Lincoln was very likely a "Goldwater Republican" even though Goldwater wasn't born yet, and most of them have left the GOP for the Libertarian party, or are seriously considering it. (Or like me have left for the Green party, but I think there are much less of us...)
