They're both 18?

Actress Mary-Kate Olsen, left, 18, who is recovering from treatment for an eating-disorder, and her sister Ashley Olsen, 18, touch their star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in this April 29, 2004...

What I wonder is if they will become some sort of eating disorder/twins study. Why one twin would have an eating disorder and the other wouldn't. Presumably they have had as similar genetic background and upbringing as any two people can.

Didn't you watch Wild Kingdom? As any devotee of the good work of Marlin Perkins can tell you: it's simple - one twin is simply stronger than the other.

Look carefully at Ashley - she's clearly the more cunning and ruthless of the two. As we speak, jackals are watching intently as Mary-Kate scuttles across the parched savannah. It will all be over soon. You may want to send the wee one out of the room.

Since they don't inhabit the same time and place ... maybe one was subject to a cruel remark that the other one wasn't?

You know, "Tipping Point" and all.

Hey, its all about Chaos Theory. Just ask Jeff Goldblum to show you in a creepily seductive manner with some water while on your way to an island inhabited by dinosaurs who have a population od 1/2 obese dinos and 1/2 anorexic/stoned dinos.... or something.

You seem to imply that Ashley doesn't have an eating disorder. All we know is that she hasn't been hospitalized for one.
