Book 7 Release Date Announced

Koosh told me first, but Amazon practically spammed me second. Book 7 is due to arrive in July:

And, according to Amazon, there are two versions, standard and deluxe, but I can't figure out what makes the deluxe so deluxe. And is this seriously the cover art?

Haven't read Neuromancer?

Shame on you. This is a must read. (Unless, of course, you don't read fiction, or specifically science fiction. Or are scared of computers. Or don't like awards. Or are creeped out by the Internet.)

Here is the novel that started it all, launching the cyberpunk generation, and the first novel to win the holy trinity of science fiction: the Hugo Award, the Nebula Award and the Philip K. Dick Award. With Neuromancer, William Gibson introduced the world to cyberspace--and science fiction has never been the same.

Please, Nickelodeon, release this on DVD

I don't watch much TV, contrary to popular belief, however I do like to take a break to watch Avatar when I stumble across it:

Water. Earth. Fire. Air. Only the Avatar was the master of all four elements. Only he could stop the ruthless Fire Nation from conquering the world. But when the world needed him most, he disappeared. Until now...

American made, Anime inspired, great story, original material, catch it if you can.

My odd family

My family has a mailing list. I believe it just may be my primary means of communication with most of my family. Is that wrong? Please don't judge, at least not yet:

Iwata announced that the Wi-Fi protocol for Nintendo DS will provide users with a link to other players across the country or around the world. Once the service begins later this year, Nintendo DS users will be able to connect to the service wirelessly at Wi-Fi hot spots, whether they’re at home, in a hotel or at a coffee shop. As one of several Wi-Fi games, Nintendo’s in-house development team is creating a new Animal Crossing game for global Wi-Fi play.

[ News : Article ]

Once Animal Crossing DS over WiFi becomes my primary means of communication with the entire world, then you can pity me. That is if you have Animal Crossing DS and can mail me your ridicule, or a fossil...

And I can't wait to tell the first client, instead of using a conference call, let's all just meet in my Animal Crossing DS town, mind the weeds!

Bill Gates must read my website...

At least that's my assumption. And he's finally realized that Nintendo is hot. Can anyone say X-Cube? GameBoy X? XBox VR? Ok, not that last one.

Microsoft Corp's founder Bill Gates has expressed his interest in acquiring computer games company Nintendo Co from the Japanese billionaire Hiroshi Yamauchi.

[ Forbes.com ]

After this, Nintendo could reveal the secret labratory of Square Enix, and Gates could “aquire” them as well. Shortly after Naugty Dog and Insomniac would ditch Sony, and the One World Order would be in place.

Of course if Bill wants Nintendo that bad, Amazon sells GCNs...

SpongeBob's Pineapple House

Although my fish abuse SpongeBob, and he's mostly just a place for algae to grow on, I like the kitsch that it adds to my aquarium. However, it makes me sad to think that SpongeBob can't go home, since there is no pineapple in my aquarium. Perhaps it's time to pony up the cash:

Now your fish can live in SpongeBob's tropical abode! Molded pineapple design with a door and window openings for fish to swim through. This great aquarium decoration is recommended for 10 gallon tanks and larger

Or, perhaps I just just get a small crab pot, and mock up the Krusty Krab.

The guys from Judgement Day/Electronic Playground were hyping this site. Looks pretty decent.

JRR Tolkien's crazy world

For a while now I've recognized how JRR Tolkien borrowed from Arab culture for aspects of the dark side of the lord of the rings. Arab sounding names for things, Arab looking peoples, etc. I've never thought that Tolkien was as anti-Arab as CS Lewis clearly is, but I never thought that he had much admiration for Arabs either. Then I stumbled across this:

How does Elvish writing work? Elvish writing looks distinctive and compact partly because consonants are treated like letters and vowels are treated like punctuation marks.

[ How Elvish Writing Works ]

Clearly borrowing a tremendous amount from Arabic, though one could argue Hebrew or Amharic to some degree, I think Tolkien was fascinated with Arabs and their culture and worked it into his fantasy. Of course I'm sure some Tolkien scholar out there already knows this, and could talk for days on the subject, but I've just figured this out myself, thank you very much.

'Lion' to Be Shot in New Zealand

How exciting:

AP - "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe," the beloved fantasy novel by C.S. Lewis, will be made into a film in New Zealand, a newspaper reported Friday.

[Yahoo! News - Most Viewed ]

Hopefully they'll avoid the more anti-Islamic books in the series. Mmmmm Turkish Delight.

Just 4 days away, and I'm getting excited

Battlestar Galactica is set to return, and apparently they've done quite the job. However, it's already clear that it's not just a redo of the old version that I loved so much, as Starbuck and Boomer are now women (and Boomer is a bit of a hottie, if you'll pardon the expression).

It does appear that there is many voices that would condem this version before it even airs, but I think I'll be watching anyway.

Update: In his own right, the original Boomer was no slouch either. Not Starbuck, but no slouch.

RE: An open letter to shareholders of daveGruska.com

Are you addicted to BlogShares yet? This guy seems to be really into it. (I'm saving up to buy some of his, though, once the valuation comes back down a bit...)

As investors of daveGruska.com know, we've had an exciting few weeks. We have gone from a share price of $1.31 to a split-adjusted $257.07 in a matter of days. As CEO of my blog, I would like to personally extend my gratitude to all of my shareholders, especially the ones who stuck with me during the rough times, as I changed from .text to dasBlog. I promise to try my best to continue to increase shareholder value.
