Non-scientific analysis of ISPs

In Rockville I had the fastest connection Comcast would sell me, and in Bethesda I now have the fastest connection Verizon (FiOS) will sell me. I am going to say that Fiber allows for more speed than Cable, though this is clearly not scientific in any way...

It's great how Comcast has been saying cable is X times faster than DSL and now FIOS is saying up to X times faster than cable. Both are taking it to extremes to the point of false advertising.

I wish we could get FIOS here, but Verizon says they will not even start on Frederick County until Montgomery County is done. I'd been hoping for DSL even, but it doesn't look like that will happen. For a while on and off, Comcast/Adelphia really had some speed issues. I honestly think Comcast has a bandwidth problem still, because as sure as the sun will rise, the reception on any big series start or finale will have major problems such as frequent pausing and/or loss of sound for 1-5 seconds as well as visual artifacts.
